Shannon Vaught

Self Portrait, Something Changed
Oil on Panel
14x11 inches

Shannon Vaught is a representational realist painter, born in 1996 just outside of Detroit, Michigan. After earning her BFA in painting at the Laguna College of Art + Design  in 2019, Shannon moved to Columbus, Ohio where she is currently exploring a body of work focused on the fragility of life and the resulting anxiety and fear related to one’s own mortality. Working primarily in oil, Shannon’s paintings are characterized by expressive brushstroke and a freshness that calls to her adoration of life. But are often contrasted by the contemplative and sometimes somber nature of her subjects. Through her narrative portrait and figure paintings, Shannon invites the viewer to examine the transience of the human experience and challenge our perceptions surrounding our mortality.
